The movie – Tommy Douglas – I'm interested in movies – watching movies, the making of movies.

Thoughts from the day: way less glamorous than you might imagine. Not really that surprising.
It reminded me of life in a lot of ways.
  • There was a lot of standing around wondering what was going on – I don’t know if that speaks to you, but it did to me – wondering what to do next…
  • it was tiring
  • there was a lot of doing something 15 times to get it right – unfortunately, I know what that’s like too.
  • It took longer than I thought it would
  • Met some nice people I didn’t expect to
  • Met some people I didn’t want to
  • Something else stood out to me – in fact, it was the thing I took away most. What impressed me most wasn’t the stars – Tommy Douglas did a great job – good actor – but he wasn’t it… it was the people behind the scenes – the people that had contact with us (the nobodies, the extras) they were incredible. 2 guys and a girl stood out to me – all day – they were up at 2 a.m. (we arrived onset about 5 a.m.)– they were still going after we left – and they were patient – gracious – answered questions – dealt with the delays, the unexpected things… it was impressive.

It was the people in the background not the foreground that impressed me – not the people in front of the camera – the ones running to make sure they weren’t in it.
I guess I had enough time there standing around all day to think of it - but it was a vivid picture of servanthood. Two different perspectives, personalities. I don't know that I'll ever forget it.

What a great experience. I'll have to see the movie and try to find you in it.
