In the church here we've had a few things going on with high school students and they've been positive. However, we only have 2-3 students that age in the church and they're pretty busy themselves. So we only do stuff about once a month.

Anyway, I was at the school across the street (our church is directly kiddy corner to the school... so I think although it's been here for 75 yrs [the church that is] being involved with them is something God could be hinting at)
anyway, the principal who is young and very with it started talking to me about a program that recognises the community plays a large role in the education/development/learning/teaching process - and to that end is looking for more ways the community could become involved with the school and the students with the community.

So we've had 4 meetings (aaaahhhh) and finally have planned an event. Pretty low-key - hang in the gym watch a show in the 'resource' room (that's what they call the library these days. The resource room was always a dirty word to me when I was in elementary school. Where they put the kids who light fires and stuff)

I was looking around for some ideas on different kinds of events that some youth in Avonlea could shoot for. And I started clicking through these links.
I haven't read through these sites in their entirety - but I like the connections between - youth/community/adult allies/positive change - along with ideas like
global vision - local action.

I forwarded some notes to the students involved and am interested to see if any of this stuff will stir something up in them.

After all - they are the future - they have the keys to tomorrows locks - they blah blah blah

Student movements are cool
