Surfer killed by shark off Hawaii
Tiger sharks are the most common attackers in Hawaii
A surfer has been killed by a shark off the island of Maui, Hawaii's first deadly shark attack in about 12 years.
the whole story here
The whole shark thing freaks me out. We've got all kinds of stories from the lake I work at - stuff we talk about around the campfire like how somebodies friends cousin from down the lake was skiing and there was a fin that came up behind them... stuff like that. Or there's also one about how in the winter time some guy's truck went through the ice. To claim insurance on any vehicle that goes through - you have to pull it up... so they need divers - chains - tow-trucks... anyway the story goes that the two pro divers who went under to hook up the chains to this guys truck "saw" something. And it was big. The story was they came flying out of the hole and wouldn't go back down - they needed to find some other divers.
That's the kind of stuff that you chuckle about and then forget... until a few nights later everyone decides to swim out to the floating dock. You're having fun - and all that - when suddenly something brushes your leg... and everything - the movie Jaws when you were twelve years old and your mom said 'no' you can't watch it, but you go to your friends and watch it anyway and figure out what she was talking about... the story about the divers - water-skiers and the surfers in Hawaii all comes flooding back into the front of your templar nodes and you start to freeze up - you want to swim faster but you can't breathe and you think maybe if you just don't move you won't draw any more attention (you know like the monster won't see all the splashing around from the depths) so instead you just slow down and swim relaxed - try to stay cool.
Those are the moments that test logic and enliven the imagination.
