Attended a funeral today in Regina - it was taken by an old Anglican minister... this guy was right on - very appropriate... and I talked with him afterwards.
I let him know I had never actually conducted a funeral, and he asked if I had some experience helping at all. Dennis Camplin performed a funeral while I was under him in my internship, but that was ages ago it seems, and I can't really remember anything about it.
He told my about how when he was first ordained the archdeacon of the church asked him to come along and assist with a funeral to gain experience. Well, he said he arrived at the church at the appropriate time and heard the organ playing, the chapel was quiet - empty in fact, and he asked if the family had arrived yet.
The funeral was over. His clock had stopped or something - well, he never got another chance to 'practice' - the next funeral that came along was his and he did it cold... which was alright he said.
I confessed that although I had never done a funeral - I had followed the Anglican liturgy quite closely in the one wedding service that I have performed.
He laughed and said I couldn't go wrong.
