Bruchko
Read the book written by Bruce Olson today entitled "Bruchko".
An incredible story of how this kid (19 yrs. old) decides to drop out of linguistic studies in college (minnesota) and travels to South America to reach nomadic tribes that have never been reached before...
One of my greatest enjoyments is to read and see something that is Christian be realized or displayed in a profoundly distinct cultural way.
For example there is no word for faith in the Motelite language (the tribe Olson was living with)- instead the concept of faith in God is expressed as "tying into" Him - using the same verb as the tying of your hammock to secure pillars...
There is many cool expressions and truths similarly written throughout the book that I enjoyed to see in a fresh light.
I think many of these adages or stories come out in the written translation of the Bible into another language. Some things clearly do not translate in the same way... it is an interesting struggle.
