Went for a walk last Friday in the badlands close to town. It's a pretty incredible place. There was no snow on the ground (it snowed all of last night) - anywas walking along I saw a massive Bald Eagle in a tree. Not a very usual sight for this area - it took off into the sky and sort of just rode the wind for awhile - when from the other direction a big old Golden Eagle swooped into view and was doing the same. Looking for critters I guess - but to see those two birds flying in the same area was rare - and beautiful.
Walking to the edge of a cliff I looked down into a couley where a creek runs through the bottom - although there is no way they could have heard me I saw a few deer just looking at me - ears up and attentive.
The landscape around Avonlea never ceases to amaze me - my next interest is to drive into the hills now that we have snow everywhere and get an idea of what the area looks like now. I've only ever really been into the hills in fall - and everythings brown. This will give another interesting panoramic view with a white blanket everywhere.
